World Literature (WL) Assignments ( 20%)
Two assignments written during the course and externally assessed, each 1000-1500 words.
· Assignment 1: Comparative study of at least two Part 1 works
· Assignment 2: Based on work(s) not used in assignment 1
2a; comparative study (1 WL and one Language A1 work)
2b; imaginative or creative piece (1 WL or 1 WL and 1 Lag A1 work)
2c; detailed study: (1 WL work only)
Two compulsory oral activities to be assessed by the teacher and externally moderated.
· Individual oral commentary 15 minutes
· Commentary on an extract, chosen by the teacher, from one of the Part 2 works studied.
· Individual Oral Presentation 10-15 minutes
Presentation of a topic, chosen by the candidate, based on Part 4 work(s)
may examinations
Written Paper Component (50%)
Two written Papers, externally set and externally moderated
· Paper 1 Commentary (2 hours)
Written Commentary based on an unseen poem or other text to which the techniques of literary criticism can be applied.
· Paper 2 Essay (2 hours)
Two essay questions on Part 3 texts, and four questions of a general nature.
One question only to be answered, based on the Pt 3 works studied and, if relevant, Pt 2 works of the same genre.
Assignments counting towards the examination grade will be set throughout the two-year course.
Apart from these, essays, commentaries and oral assignments will be set towards a report grade.
For research on the primary sources listed above, reading of secondary resources will also be required.
Organization of the course:
We will start with Part 4 works, moving on to Part 1 after Christmas. At least one WL assignment will be completed
before the summer.
The third term will also involve some Part 2 works.
The summer holiday and year two will be spent on the remaining Part 2 works and on Part 3.
