Maruman repair

ADVICE:
Repairing lighters is in many cases a job for experts. When you are not certain you are able to make the repair, I'll advise you to let your retailer do the job for you.

Always be aware of the danger when you are working with lighters. They look somewhat innocent but can become very dangerous when malfunction.

FILLING PROBLEMS:
Problems filling the Maruman lighter with gas.

Often you used your lighter for quite some time, or bought it at an auction. It is still a beautiful thing but one way or the other it is not functioning well any more.
The Maruman is quite a solid lighter. Great design and a perfect piece of machinery.

However, this lighter has problems with the burner too. You can find out how to repair this at ´MODERN BURNER´. The Maruman is difficult to dismantle. And as you have dismantled the thing, you cannot get out the part of the carburator. This is a copper pen inside the tank. Unscrew the top of the burner and pull the pen out at the bottom (this is the combined inlet-valve / regulator).

These are the parts of a Maruman Electronic (quite a lot !):

Paula´s lighter.

At the bottom right in the picture you can see the copper pen with the carburator inside.

You cannot unscrew the inlet valve because this is blocked by two ´dents´ in the pen. In the picture below you can see one of the two dents.

You must use a small iron-saw. Go easily over the two dents and remove the structure. Be very careful, not to saw the whole thing off! If you´ve done this, you can unscrew the regulator. Clean and replace the parts of the burner like I wrote at ´modern burner´.

When you have a Maruman with electronic system, be very careful with that part. You can easily destroy this crucial part! The Maruman with piezo, and the same tank system, is much easier.

The Maruman inletvalve is not quite standard (but what part is on the Maruman!!).

In the first picture you can see the inlet (A) of the lighter. If you look inside, you can see a circle which is flattened at one side as you can see at (B).

Here you have the problem ´getting-no-gas-into-the-lighters tank´. The standard nozzle of the gascan is quite narrow (C), so often there can no gas escape from the tank, by the dent in the inletvalve into your lighters tank!

Therefore you need to find another nozzle, same outer size, but a little bit wider on the inside. Even than you cannot always fill the whole tank at once.

If some gas will get in the tank, you will need to let the gas out again by using a pen or small screwdriver. Push the pen down, the gas will escape (do not smoke during this!). The lighter will cool down fast, causing underpressure in the tank. By immediate refilling it again the tank of the lighter will vacuum the gas inside.

Note: We are not responsible for the consequences of any kind caused by improper use of the materals advised in this site.

We cannot say it enough: Be VERY careful during the proces; YOU WORK WITH BUTANE GAS IN A PRESSURIZED TANK !
