The clutch spring is broken / An old flint is
blocking the way under the spark wheel (oxidation will expand

When the lighter has fell, the cristal is broken (no
repair possible, just replace)
Dirt has blocked the burner nozzle.
The anode is too close to the burner nozzle. (needs about
2mm. of space between them) |
| Electrical lighter does not ignite. |
Battery is down (use new 12 V. one).
The switch is broken.
The elco cannot hold power. (see Electr.lighter) |
| Fuel lighter gives no flame (ignition is ok). |
Previous owner put in the wrong kind of petrol.
Remove the cotton. Put in new with the right lighter-fluid.
The wick is too short. |
| Butane lighter gives no flame (gas is inside the
tank / ignition is ok). |
The adjusting wheel fits too tight.
Burner valve is blocked. See 'Modern burner' / 'Ronson repair'
for solution. |
| Butane lighter gives no flame (no gas in the
tank). |
This is often the problem with the Maruman lighter.
It is a nice and reliable inletvalve, but is not quite standard.
Often not able to get gas in it.

| Fuel lighter leaks. |
Too much fuel inside the tank.
The cotton is old and sticky. (replace it. Make sure it is
tight in the tank)
The rubber at the inlet is dry and porous. |
| Butane lighter leaks. |
BE VERY CAREFUL! the
inlet valve is broken. DO NOT repair this but replace it.
The burner valve leaks. Replace rubber
seal.
Plastic tank is broken. No repair!
Metal tank is broken. You can resolder
the tank but this is a job for experts! |
| Flame is too high. |
At the adjusting wheel is often a blocking
attached. Remove this temporarely. Adjust the flame and replace
the blocking. |
