As you can see on the left, this Ronson Premier is no longer in
original state, but painted red and black. This is one of the possibility's
how to give a real worn down lighter a new look. However, many old
Comets need a paintjob to get to new state!
Ronson made during the 70's a lot of Comets with plastic tank/casing.
After 30 years this plastic is getting crisp and is turning white. You
can polish it, but after a while it's turning back white again.
Something drastic needs to be done to prevent that.

Although a flatbed scanner is not the best medium to insert 3d object
in your computer, you can see the somewhat white clouds over the plastic
on the right Comet. These are gone (of course!) on the left, painted,
one.
You need:
- Carpaint in the right color (with 100 cc. you can paint A LOT of
lighters!).
- Hardener for this synthetic paint.
- Thinner.
- Synthetic material adhesive and a dope for the paint to remove the
highgloss.
- An airbrush.
First remove the gas from your lighter. For safety do this outside
the house and don't smoke while you do this! After that you can
disassemble the lighter, but you can leave the burner valve and the
inlet valve in their place. Put some tape on the chrome band at the
bottom of the Comet to prevent painting this the same time (do this also
with the burner valve). Degrease the tank thorough with white spirit
otherwise you can peel off the paint later when it's dry.
Fill your airbrush with paint in the following composition. 100% paint,
50% hardener and 30% thinner. Add a few cc. synthetic adhesive and
experiment with the highgloss-dope to get the right 'egg-gloss'. Most of
the time 20% will do.
Make sure you ventilate the room and you use
protection to prevent inhaling the paint / thinner while spraying the
lighter!
Now you can spray the lighter casing. After 24
hours the paint is hard enough to assemble the lighter.
Of course you can remove deep scratches at the
same time. Before you start you paintjob, you need to fill up these gaps
and polish it.

caused by improper use of the materals advised in this site.
