Layout leather around tank Ronson
Premier
Leather is often worn down when you buy your 'new' lighter at an
auction or a fair. Sometimes it is possible to restore it by polishing
it with brown or black shoe-polish. But what to do when the leather is
torn. On top of this page you find the layout for a Premier. Try to find
very thin and soft leather. For instance the material for motor
overall's. It's quite easy to find some rest parts at a business who
makes these overall's. There are two ways to glue this to your lighter.
Dry: Use contact glue (Bison-kit). Apply the glue on lighter
and leather. Wait a few minutes before you join the two together. This
has to go right at once, you cannot push aside when it's not in the
right place.
Wet: Use a latex-like glue (glue for 'paper-back' books). Make
the leather wet and attach the glue to it. Place the leather on the tank
of your lighter. If it's not on the right place, you are in this case
able to push it aside. During drying the leather will shrink. In this
way the leather will attach very tight to the tank.
Both procedures need al little practice, but it's quite well possible.
The lighter is still in an original state when you choose leather color
Ronson used for theirs.
Important: Always degrease the chrome lighter. The adherence of
chrome is very low! |
