Information
on the World Puzzle Championships.
The World
Puzzle Championship was held for the 12th time this year. In the previous
12 years the event has grown to an annual puzzle-feast for both puzzlemakers
and puzzlesolvers. The organization is becoming more and more professional
resulting in the founding of the World
Puzzle Federation in 1999. Also the puzzlers are more and more puzzle-solvers
rather than puzzle-makers. e.g. The Dutch WPC teams in 1992 to 1995 consisted
of 4 puzzle-makers, working for Puzzelsport,
the best Dutch puzzle magazine publisher. But when they organized the 5th
WPC in 1996 in Utrecht, they first held a National round to pick their
national team. And with great success, the team finished 4th and for the
first time a Dutch puzzler made the top 10 on the individual ranking (Paul
Jacobs was 6th that year).
The WPC
will keep on growing into the future. The next 2 competitions will be held
in Croatia (2004) and Hungary (2005). For more information on participating
in those events look on the site of the World
Puzzle Federation.
Information
and reports on past WPC's can be found by choosing the year and place of
