Brakes

Well, the B GT V8 had thicker discs and slightly different calipers. No need to change that, because it works just fine for me. I am however in the process of trying out different pads. But here is in detail what I did. It mostly relies on the same advice as above: the standard thing works just fine, but make sure all the components are in very good condition, without old/weak links. So what is there:

reconditioned master brake cylinder
servo overhauled
calipers reconditioned (with chrome pots)
braided stainless brake hoses (previous owner)
new copper brake lines, also from front to rear
different sets of pads; Van Heck, Lucas OE, and a set of Greenstuffs
different sets of discs; x-drilled and solid. the rear drums have had new cylinders

The MG B, B GT V8 and Triumph TR8 can use the same brake pads: type number H112 (Van Heck). The pad area is the same as the original B GT V8 pad area. So the area is larger than the original MG B pad. Coincidentally the same pad is used in lots of Ford Transits; for example the Ford Transit 2.0 as produced from 1986 to 1991.

Some people want to fit vented discs. The combination that is advised is the Princess four pot caliper with the Peugeot 505 Turbo vented disc. The Peugeot 604Ti uses the disc you would like to have, but need to be redrilled to MG B bolt hole size. The 604Ti uses Brembo discs, partnumber RS 4260. Maybe the Peugeot dealer can get different (non-Brembo, so cheaper?) discs.
