Basic Scan Lines

1. This is the most basic element of the modern, hi-tech web design called scan lines. You've seen it on tons of web sites used in countless different ways. |

2. Create a new channel² and using the Pencil¹ tool draw a 1 pixel, white horizontal line. Using the Rectangular Marquee¹ tool select the white line and one pixel below. |

3. In the main menu select Edit > Define Pattern to define selected area as a pattern. Remove selection. In the main menu select Edit > Fill and set Content variable to pattern. In Photoshop 5 the last defined pattern will be used where in Photoshop 6 you can chose the pattern you want to use from the list of available patterns. |

4. Load selection² from that channel. Create a new layer and fill the selection with white using the Paint Bucket¹ tool. Set Blending Mode of the layer to Soft Light or, depending on the type of background you might need to try others. |
