Title: Pride and
prejudice
Author: Jane Austen
Genre: classic fiction/romance/social comedy
Rating:
Elizabeth Bennet (the pride character) lives with her
family on a humble estate in England. When she meets Mark Darcy (the prejudice
character) her world isn't the same anymore. Mr. Darcy is rude, inconsiderate,
unpleasant etc, but still she feels an attraction towards him she can't explain.
Mark Darcy has the same feeling; Ms. Bennet is "poor", doesn't want to
please men just for the sake of it, never takes part in conversations when she
ought to etc., and yet he wants to be with her. So Elizabeth has to learn how to
be humble and Mark has to learn to be less judgmental. In the meantime both are
very hard trying to ignore the feelings they have for each other out
of.........pride and prejudice.
This story was written almost two centuries ago, but is
still one of the most (if not the most) romantic story I've ever read. Although
the language is often outdated and the world described is totally different from
ours, the meaning of love, the feelings and emotions are still the same. I think
that's why this book is still one you can read without the feeling you're
reading a "very old" book. The strength of the book is shown if you consider all the books and movies that
are based on this very story, for instance Bridget
Jones's diary.
Other books by Jane Austen
are Emma, Mansfield Park.
