I started very optimistic, I really wanted to read this book, but something
happened along the way. I've managed to get to page 117, then I had to put the
book away, I'm afraid. What it was that did it? Hard to say, but I'll try. First
of all, nothing happened. The story is just that: one story after another.
Second, things that could be said in one or two sentences had to be explained in
one or two paragraphs. Not my kind of writing. Third: I didn't have a connection
with the characters. It's a shame, because the issue raised in the book, racism
and the choice to be something else that you are, appeals to me still.
So a no go for me, but I know some people really like the book.
