Title: Hitch
hiker's guide to the galaxy, the
Author: Douglas Adams
Genre: science fiction/humor
Rating:
Just
before planet Earth is being destroyed alien Ford Prefect, who has lived on
earth for fifteen years as an out-of-work-actor, saves human Arthur Dent, who
already is having a bad day because his house is scheduled to be demolished that
morning. Reason for destruction: the planet has to give way for an intergalactic
freeway. After they are picked up in lose space just before they run out of
oxygen, a journey through space and time begins with help of totally different
individuals (my favorite: Marvin the always depressed robot) and the
hitchhiker’s guide. They are forced to work together to survive their ride
through the galaxy in a spaceship that runs on improbability numbers.
Totally
absurd humor and I love it!! Just one of the funniest books I ever read. I
waited a very long time before I bought and read the book, although everybody
said it was a must-read, because I thought it wasn’t for me, as it is science
fiction. I should have listened…and please listen to me: read this book!
I
do think however, this humor isn’t for everybody and even if it is for you, I
don’t think it’s a wise idea to read the whole series at once (the series
contains five books and one short story at the moment), because of a possible
overload, but this first part of the Hitchhiker’s series is just enough to
keep you laughing for a couple of days straight. And by laughing I mean out loud
until your stomach hurts. The dialogues are quick, sharp and funny, the story is
fantastic. The characters are bizarre but in their own way believable and
heartbreaking. Do yourself a favor, buy this book and have fun.
