Title: Digs
Author: Bette Pesetsky
Genre: fiction
Rating:
A book very
different from anything I've read the last couple of years.
A middle-aged couple
is moving from New York city to the country. The man (Walter) hears about an old
house that should be in the ground of their backyard. He decides to see for
himself and starts digging a hole. The hole and the digging soon becomes an
obsession, a way of life. All the parties involved, Walter, his wife (Sara) and
their two sons (Alexander and Norman) have their own look on things.
The story is told
from various perspectives and is humorous, intelligent and moving. What makes
this book so special is the way Pesetsky writes. Her style is one I've never
seen before, her humor is very subtle but, I think, not for every one.
