In the summer of 1944, the Germans moved a installation to listen to the allied radio from Noordwijk-hout to Geenhoven. Geenhoven is a very small village north of Valkenswaard. Valkenswaard is a village about 3km south of Eindhoven.
| For the installation a bomb-free area was required. The walls of
this bomb-free area are 3 meters thick. At the outside of the walls a wall
of bricks was placed. In the wall of bricks some fake-windows were made.
You can't see this is a bunker before you are inside. The part with the
smaller walls contains a living-room. On the upper floor bedrooms were
made for the crew.
On the drawing above a view on the house from the south. This is a picture of the Farm-house. The highest roof covers the bunker. The part on the left containes a livingroom (room 3 on the drawing). on the upper floor there are sleeping rooms The numbers on the drawing:
On the pictue above the holes in the wall, for the cables. What can you see through the window? Yep, it is concrete ! The walls were covered with bricks to let it look like this was a real farmhouse. When the allied found out that this building was a radio-station their forces were so close that they dicided not to do an air-attack. |
The picture below is taken in the room with the fresh-air installation.
The drawing below is a ground-plan of the building.
