117a Commando-bunker

On the left two pictures of different 117a commandobunkers. (Upper picture = bunker 2. The other is bunker 1.)

The 117a is a commando-bunker. From this bunker and the other 117a, also located at Schoonenberg, "Festung IJmuiden" was commanded. Special of this 117 is that the walls are three metres thick. That makes the bunkers "Bomb-proof". The 117 is originally a Westwall desighn bunker, but it is also used in the Atlantic wall. The difference between the Westwall type and the Atlanticwall type is the observation cupola is left out of the desighn in the Atlanticwall.

The information about the drawing of the 117 is comming from our own info about Katwijk-Alt. We can not be sure that this is the same as IJmuiden, but we suppose it is.

622 Quarter for two groups

The 622 quarter is a bunker for two groups. This 622 is constructed on top of a huge fundationplate, because of the soft ground and the weight of the bunker.
