Baupunkt 218 (Seeziel Batterie Westduin)

The Battery "Westduin" was from origin a very special battery. Now most of the battery is demolished. The other part is under tonns of sand.

1 = 636 Leitstand

2 = SK embrased emplacements

3 = FL 246 Ammunition depot.

4 = Covered trenches.

FL246 Ammunition depot.

The Drawing shows the fl246 ammunition-depot connected to the roofed trenches. Also on the drawing is the interior of the depot. The grey fields are where the ammunition was stored.

All pictures on this page are from this specific fl246.

The picture on the left shows the tunnel in front of the fl246. One of the antrances can be seen. The other entrance is in the background (not vissible).

The picture on the right shows one of the entrances to the bunker with the ST sighn, meaning that it was bomb-proof.

The picture on the right shows a steel door at one of the entrances. The picture on the left shows the 5 steps counting stairway down into the depot with the steel door.

The three pictures show that the ammunition-store-shelves were placed before the bunker was painted. This can be seen in almost all fl246 storage-bunkers.

Right up: Space in the wall to place a radio. You can see a pipe with alluminimum profile in it. The picture right under shows the other side of the wall with the profile connected to a pipe going into the ground.

At battery Westduin 5 buildings were connected to the trench. Only one of those buildings was a St bunker. On the left picture: The trench made of bricks goes deeper into the ground. The deeper part is made of concrete. Picture below: The trench had several emergency exits, called "Abort" by the germans.
